Is traveling a hobby? Well that depends on who you ask! Never in the history of mankind has traveling been so safe and accessible. You can hop on a plane and be on the other side of the world in less than a day. Back in the olden days when humans needed to make long treks across the country, it would take months by horse and buggy. People would die, babies would be born and a whole lot of other crazy stuff would happen in between. These days all you need is a plane ticket or a tank full of gas. Let’s take a look at whether traveling is a hobby or not.

Is traveling an interest or a hobby?
A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one’s leisure time. Collecting, making, tinkering, playing, and participating in outdoor activities are all considered hobbies.
Traveling is a hobby for adventurous people who love to go to places where they haven’t gone to or seen before. When a person enjoys what they do and find pleasure in it you can say that is your hobby.
When I was in my early 20’s I wanted to travel. The problem was I didn’t have anyone to go with me and I was way too scared to head off to parts unknown all by myself. I was able to vacation in places like Mexico with my family and when my husband and I were dating we went to California and Las Vegas. Being young meant I didn’t have the time or money to take off for months on end to see the world.
People told me to travel when I was young because I wouldn’t do it once I had kids. Well, I travel more now that I have my daughter than I ever did before. The main game changer was when I quit my office job to blog full time. Once I started working for myself I had total freedom of my time and didn’t have to limit my vacations to just 2 weeks per year.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic many people have been given the opportunity to work remotely. This is a huge advantage to anyone who wants to travel as a hobby. If you work from your laptop can enable you to work anywhere!
Blogging has it’s advantages because I can do it from anywhere in the world I have an internet connection. It’s also passive income which means whether or not I roll out of bed, I’m still making money. Basically, it’s a travelers dream.

Why is traveling a good hobby?
Traveling gives you exposure that you cannot get from anything else. When you travel to another state or part of the world, you gather knowledge about their culture and heritage. You’ll learn about their history, their cuisine and much more. Every part of the world like a book, holds within itself a wealth of knowledge.
Many people see traveling as more than just a hobby, It’s a lifestyle and a way of life. With housing costs skyrocketing, many young people are choosing to live in tiny portable houses or taking off in vans converted in to homes on wheels, spending life traveling from one destination to another.
The film Nomadland follows a woman who travels around the country in a converted van, moving from state to state and working various jobs to support herself, never staying in one place for too long. For her traveling is a way of life and an escape after the death of her husband and losing her career. It’s a way for her to avoid dealing with some of the hard things in her life.
One of the most important things I’ve learned from traveling is that the more cultures and different parts of the world you experience, the more you realize that we really are all the same. Humans are more alike than we are different no matter what race or religion you are or what part of the earth you call home.
When it all boils down, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which classification you fall into. Traveling is something that should be incorporated into a life whether it’s an important part of your lifestyle or just an occasional vacation.
